Entry #9 The Dairy Industry

Image
If you're anything like me, you probably couldn't go through 5 seconds of this video without dry heaving. This is the exact point that peta  wants to make about the dairy industry. They flash gut wrenching images at you and make you listen to the screams of helpless animals in hopes that you will be fearful of eating or drinking any dairy products at all. Peta wants to instill this feeling of guilt into the things that you eat. They want you to shy away from drinking milk for that night at the very least and they don't necessarily tell you or even show you exactly what's going on in the dairy industry, but they do flash you these horrifying images of cows being hit, abused, and bleeding everywhere.  Their soul purpose is for you to stop drinking milk, stop eating cheese, and overall become a vegan. I've been a vegetarian myself for almost 14 years and this video has definitely made me skip milk and cereal this morning. It's hard to realize that bein...

Entry #7 Fresh

Image
Has anyone ever truly cared about where their food comes from? I mean everybody has to eat and as more and more people are being born, more and more meat has to be produced. This kind of thinking has led to the food industry being industrialized. Instead of having tons of family farmers producing our food, just a few companies produce it in large manufactured buildings instead of the open world. The movie Fresh shows us that there are thousands of animals being forced into small enclosed spaces, being pumped with antibiotics, and fed food that they should of never been fed before. It opens the question as to is this humane? Is this really the way that we're supposed to produce our food? Is this how we feed the world?    Fresh shows us that it's not the only way we have to live. There were farmers earning more money per square footage with their animals grazing on grass than crammed into corners in a huge buildings. These buildings cost insane amounts ...

Entry #6 The True Meaning of Farenheit 451

Image
I'm pretty sure almost everyone at some point in their previous 12 years of English has had to read Ray Bradbury's, "Farenheit 451." I remember having discussion after discussion about how this dystopian society  parallels our own world. That it creates this idea of censorship that flattens the playing field for everyone. It eliminates discrimination and  The entire book seems to be written as a warning. It infers that without intelligence, the world is dire.   However, Ray Bradbury wrote this book with a completely different purpose in mind. At a speech he gave in 2007, "Farenheit 451 is not about government censorship," but plainly means that people are  "being turned into morons by TV"    It goes to show that I can't really trust what others say about the meaning of some type of literature or art. You will never truly know their meaning unless the author, themselves tells you. I believe that books and art are open to interpretat...

Entry #5 Status Update

Image
Every second of every day someone is out there on social media racking up social points, broadcasting their daily lives, to climb up this social mountain. There is a chain of social groups that you can track who is best friends with who and who likes what all over the internet. I am appalled by the importance and the affect social media has on these kids. Instead of focusing on real problems, kids are stressed over the amount of likes they have on another persons instagram, they delete pictures if they don't have enough, and they go around asking their friends if they think a picture of them will receive a large amount of popularity. In today's age, at school if you don't have hundreds of likes and comments on a photo, you are nothing. You are at the bottom of this social society.      I for one have never spent a huge amount of time on social media in my personal life. I had a twitter, instagram and facebook obviously in highschool, but ...

Entry #4 Something to Think About

Image
"There may be a great fire in our soul, but no one ever comes to warm himself by it, all that passers-by can see is a little smoke coming out of the chimney, and they walk on." - Vincent Van Gogh            When was the last time that you stopped and thought about the people that are around you? An abundance of relationships, history, experiences, and beauty surround you at every second. Van Gogh understood this and felt this with every part of his being. He knew that every interaction you have is only a minuscule part of another's life. You see only a glimpse of their soul and the sad part is, is that nobody will stop and listen.     Van Gogh takes this feeling and puts it out onto canvas for us to fathom. His  favorite thing to paint are people because they are the result of these moments and essences fused together. He feels for strangers more than anyone else for he says that, " There’s nothing more genuinely artistic t...

Entry #3 Digital Identity

Image
Digital Identity is the persona that an entity represents itself online. Anyone that is sitting behind a computer will most likely have one. The best examples of people with strong digital identities, are internet celebrities such as youtubers and viners. They express the best parts of their lives online over multiple platforms and have a huge following of people because of this. However, any kind of person can have one such as yourself or a company.      2013 was an era of innovation for companies. They started to advertize themselves in a way that would relate to millennials. They needed to make them selves trendy and relatable to younger groups. Therefore, Wendy's started a change in marketing campaigns with their hashtag #Pretzallovesongs. In order to advertize their new Pretzel Bacon Cheeseburger, they asked the world to laugh with them and send in hilarious tweets about their new burger. This started a series of videos where artists would s...
