Entry #11 You blogged what now?

Image
This journey as a blogger has definitely, well been a journey. I absolutely hated the idea of this thing sitting in class that day in January. I thought I had finally won and was done with it in March and then comes the first day of English 102 and HAH! SURPRISE! You have to do it again! (insert non-verbal maniacal laugh) I pretty much died at the fact that I'd have to come up with 5 more topics for blogs. I mean the last entry I had for last semester was just a poem I had written during some recent midnight thoughts. Luckily, I had been playing a lot of piano over the break, a few minutes after you announced the fact that we had to do the blogs, my inner soul ruptured so much that it initiated a light bulb effect where I came up with the three classical music directed blogs I had this semester.  I was pretty reluctant to write these until I actually started to write them, it felt like a chore, but in all sincerity, I also kind of love it. I got into A...

Entry #10 I Swear Musicals Aren't That Boring

Image
Since I've spent most of this blog talking about music, I really just wanted to share a bunch of different types of musicals with you. I know a lot of people find musicals pretty boring, but I feel like those people just haven't found the right one to watch. I mean there's a musical for everything. There's Spongebob the Musical, which I kind of find stupid, but I mean, if you find squarepant humor funny, I'm sure you'd fine this to be great. There's also Shrek the Musical which by the way is on Netflix and then there's even a Spiderman the Musical where someone actually died during a stunt right before the performance.  Cartoon creators of South Park, Family Guy, The Simpsons, use musical numbers as comedy all the time. At one point in family guy, it seemed as though every other episode had some type of catchy and amusing performance. The creators of South Park love musicals so much that they actually wrote one called, "The Boo...

Entry #9 Dude, You Really Believe That?

Image
I turned 21 this past month and looking back on my life, I've realized that I've had the opportunity to live in a time where social media has essentially been forever. I created my first myspace page when I was only 10 years old. I try to believe that media really hasn't affected me at all, but clearly with the amount of time that I've spent on the internet, I am defined by the things I see and read on it.  There's this sort of philosophy that says that we are made up of every interaction we've had in our lives. Talking to one person could change a perspective about your entire life. However, what makes us now is what we pick and choose to believe from the internet. We pick out the things that we want to believe and claim which sources are incorrect. I've realized that we can't believe anything we see on the internet.  Just like how rumors can spread throughout high school, fake news is something that's plastered all over facebook and is...

Entry #8 Not So Classical

Image
When you think of classical composers, you probably are thinking about some of the composers that I have written about on this blog, like Richard Wagner, or John Cage or maybe one of the true classic legends, Mozart or Beethoven. Therefore, when people generally think of something classical, they think of something of the past, but thats not always the case.  Composer, Eric Whitacre is a modern composer, a graduate from Juilliard, and a grammy winner. I spent every year of schooling, in choir performing many of his pieces. He writes for various vocal arrangements for both high and low voices, solos, orchestras, theatre, and film. In my opinion, he makes classical music fun. Since music is no longer written for the church, he uses this freedom to create pieces that sound mature and beautiful, but uses words of nonsense.  This is a personal favorite of mine. What sounds like something out of an Opera is essentially a joke. With lyrics, like "I don't like eels, e...

Entry #7 #WakeUp

Image
It seems that with the age of the hashtag, the word hashtag itself has become some sort of form of expression. I mean I'm not sure if people are using it as a joke or not, but when you hear someone say " Hashtag,  "I hate my life" Hashtag, " OMG", Hashtag, "why." I question what exactly a hashtag really is. I've been on twitter since high school, and it seems that these hashtags are in and out of trending every couple of days. Each hashtag is like a new thread of a joke, or a scandal, an advertisement, or even a movement.  Jimmy Fallen has popularized one of the ways the hashtag is used. He'll ask his audience on his personal twitter page to tweet out a response to various hashtags. If you're tweet is funny enough, you have a chance of making it onto his show. Its made people use hashtags in a light hearted kind of way, Using it for jokes instead bashing people. These hashtags can become scandals that can ruin careers. I...

Entry #6 Raison D'être

Image
What are the reason's in which we stay here. Simply, What are we meant for? Raison D'être is the reason that a person strives for in their existence. Does there need to be a reason? Some people live for the fact that they will one day be reunited with the ones that they love and live in peace eternity. But, what about the people who live to live. Those who want to live for something, be something meant to be, but have unrelenting obstacles and barriers that can never be broken down. Like the American Dream, that so little will achieve. What's it like for those who are idle, longing for a richer home, richer family, and a more meaningful life. Do they suffer?      In his letters to Theo, Vincent Van Gogh describes this predicament as if living through the eyes of a bird, In the springtime a bird in a cage  knows very well that there’s something he’d be good for; he feels very clearly that there’s something to be done but h...

Entry #5 Does Arizona Really Need More College Grads?

Image
I have just read the  article  Governor Doug Ducey has written for Arizona central about improving the amount of college graduates. He uses a great amount of pathos, stating that he is speaking to parents and students as a "husband and father." He wants to appear as if he's just like us with the same goals such as the "American Dream" Implementing the fact that you cannot be successfull without the full proof graduate degree. That in order to be able to afford life, you must have this certificate.     Governor Ducey uses ethos credibility as though as he's the governor so he must know all right? He says that this route is best for our "children's futures." He lashes parents in telling them that he will give his kids a better education that he will help his kids graduate. He says all these things that will fix the problem of not enough people in college. But how is he going to raise graduation rates? In my...
